In a fight that was extremely hard to call, both Camilleri and Smith came prepared for war. Over the course of 6 hard-fought rounds, Camilleri was relentless in his pursuit of Smith- throwing hard, dynamic shots from all angles. Throughout the bout, Smith would be effective in keeping Camilleri at bay with the jab, and countering Camilleri's harder, overhead shots with quick jabs and straight shots that would ultimately prove more effective in the judges eyes. Eventually, after what was a fight-of-the-night performance by both fighters, in a disappointing decision for the Victorian, Richard Smith was declared the winner via UD.
Australian middleweight champion and Victorian fighter Dwight 'The Cowboy' Ritchie was up next, facing the experienced South Australian Mark Dalby. In a fight where Ritchie never seemed in any real danger, he picked his shots wisely against the older Dalby, scoring at will from the get-go. Whilst Dalby showcased his heart and courage to continue fighting against the Aussie champ for the entire 6 rounds, his attempt was in vain, with all judges scoring the bout a UD in favour of the Aussie champion.
